Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Party

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a wide array of personalities, and a exciting storyline showcasing celestial beings, evil spirits, and dark forces increasing in power within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

The latest chapter concluded with a dramatic pause and presented the premier party of heroes who will separate from the main group to begin their separate journey, separate from the other two tables.

This warrior group consists of Teor Pridesire (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (the cast member), the cleric (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

With a large ensemble, it was evident from the start that keeping everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

That’s why, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Planners, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

As described by the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for players who enjoy a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are rare.

Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might appear mismatched, but the actions of episode 3 make it clear why these specific adventurers are best suited for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the party has a clear idea where to head next after a violent opening clash with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose demise initiated the story’s plot—manipulated the foes for his selfish purposes, breaking into the hidden lair, assaulting the rogue, and taking all the powerful objects to auction.

Casimir then settled his obligations and escaped to a fortified location in the northern region, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each member has a individual motive to exit the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as the companion and trusted friend, seeks retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the northern area and advises that it is a dangerous place.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to kill the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their position as prominent individuals in the influential clan could help the group reach places they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, Teor vowed a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his deliverance and will now go with him anywhere.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are sought by the powers that rule the setting for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city too risky:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and The healer defied the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the family.

This means them few options but to travel to the remote area in pursuit of Casimir.

What’s Next?

According to the recent installment’s follow-up content, we find out that the warrior group will be absent the following episode, leaving the other eight players to assemble the Explorers and Planners groups.

Fans can anticipate learning which players will be in which group in the season’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on next week.
